Working with Tasks

The Task Workflow

Summary: The default path for most tasks: create on a project, estimate, assign, forecast, confirm, do the work (time/expenses), change status, submit the timecard, and let owners approve.

What it is

Every task moves through a shared path from idea to closed work. Workflows can be customized, but this is the default shape most people should learn first.

The path

  1. Find or create a project.
  2. Enter a task on that project and set its properties (they vary by task type).
  3. Estimate it (sometimes later — but you can do it on entry).
  4. Assign it to someone (including yourself).
  5. Forecast it (put it on a schedule).
  6. Confirm it — tell the author you will do it in that time frame (or not). What you assign to yourself is confirmed automatically.
  7. Work on it — leave comments, attach files, charge time and expenses.
  8. Change the status when your work is complete.
  9. [Future: add products to the task.]
  10. Submit your timecard at the end of the week.
  11. The project owner reviews the time, bills the customer's account as appropriate, and approves.
  12. Others may approve for business purposes.
  13. Your timecard — and all task activity on it — is complete.

That's the workflow for most tasks in Runcible.
