How you talk here (first week)
Summary: Summary:** Remember four places and one rule.
Summary: Remember four places and one rule. Work talk on the page wall. Private talk in invite-only chat. What you watch via channels. Public topics with #hashtags. There is no company-wide staff blast list — on purpose.
If you arrive from Facebook, Discourse, X/Twitter, Instagram, or Microsoft 365, the first surprise is this: Runcible is not a social network with work bolted on. It is a shared work world. People collaborate on purposeful pages (programs, projects, tasks, and similar). Talk mostly rides those pages. That keeps a durable record and stops anyone from blasting the whole company from a “group” or a feed.
Remember: four places, one rule
- 1. The page wall — Talk about the work on the work. Open a program, project, or task and comment there. Audience = people who can see that page. Closest M365 cousin: conversation on a shared SharePoint/Teams file or Planner item — not a free-floating Facebook Group.
- 2. Chat (invite-only) — Private side door between people. Start from the People panel (right-click → Chat, or select several people → Start group chat). History lives on your Profile → Chats. Closest cousins: Instagram DM / Teams chat. Not the official record of the work.
- 3. Channels (what you watch) — Your personal cable package for the Activity Stream. You subscribe pages and activity types so your feed is not noise. Closest cousin: customizing which Teams channels or Outlook folders you follow — reception, not a megaphone.
- 4. #Hashtag channels (opt-in topics) — Shared topics people choose to follow. Tag #Name in activity when the topic spans many pages. Closest cousin: a Discourse category or an X hashtag — not “post to All Company.”
The one rule: There is no staff-owned “post to everyone.” No Facebook Group blast, no company-wide Discourse dump, no @everyone for the whole tenant, no permission-group megaphone. Audience is always bounded by who can see that work, who you invited, or who opted into a topic.
If you came from…
- Facebook / Instagram — Don’t look for Groups or a public social wall for work. Use the work page for collaboration; use chat for private asides.
- Discourse / forums — Forums here are thin: #hashtags for cross-cutting topics. Day-to-day work stays on program/project/task pages.
- X / Twitter — The Activity Stream is not a global shoutbox. Tune what you receive with channels; put durable decisions on the page wall.
- Microsoft 365 — Think “conversation lives with the artifact” (page wall), plus optional chat. Access Roles / permissions decide what you can open; Teams in Runcible mean delivery staffing inside a Program — not a Teams chat room.
Quick chooser
- “We need this decided on the work itself” → page wall
- “Just between us” → chat
- “I want to follow this without living on the page” → subscribe it into a channel
- “This topic cuts across many pages” → #hashtag
- “Message everyone in the company” → not available (use an out-of-band all-hands channel your organization already runs, if you need one)
More detail: Chats, Walls, and Channels. Why “Groups” aren’t rooms: Permission Groups.
